Hi all, even if this is my third post is time to imtroduce myself...well, I'm Nicolas, 27, 3D Artist and what I wanto to do with Unity3D is to develop interactive Architectural Visualization and product presentations...

Actually I already did some arch viz with another software ( Esperient Creator ), but since lots of features are missing I decided to switch to Unity3D and see what can I do with that....
Well, to be honest I bought Torque3D as well and I've been working with UDK ( Unreal Development Kit ) for a while, but right now Unity3D seems the only one that allows me to work the way I want.

Looking around for global illumination, real-time lighting and shadows I saw a beautiful demo developed with another 3d app very similar to Unity3D, but with stunning visuals...

Well, on the Unity forum someone told me that right now I can achieve something like that in Unity3D, even find a way to have indirect illumination.....and that sounds really strange to me, because from what I've been reading the lighting system is one of the weakest features in Unity3D...

So since there are people here who use Unity3D much better than me what you can tell me about that?
Is there a way to achieve something like the video posted above?

I just would like to understand what I can and can't do with Unity3D, since I really like working with it!

Well... it is possible to get a few things working like in the video you posted but it requires some intense coding. Unity DOES lack when it comes to "Light/Lighting" your scenes directly in Unity. Unity Technologies is aware of that fact and I am pretty sure we will see some changes for the better in the near future. For now you will have to rely on 3rd party tools or your 3D App of choice to bake lights and such.

That is a really good news to someone who doesn't understand almost nothing about coding! just kidding, unfortunately there isn't right now any 3d engine capable of doing incredible stuff without coding the engine itself...well, there is the Cryengine that is brilliant, but I have to consider my average customer that will probably run the demo on his laptop, so unless is the latest one on the market he will run the demo at 1 FPS...and because the license for Cryengine 2 is about 50k, so...

Well, I hope that the next release will be all about rendering performance since right now is just what I need Smiley
